I'm Back! (I hope)

So after another year of missed goals and expectations, I'm suddenly feeling excited for the rest of the year, and hopefully for next season!  What has changed you might ask - and the reality is quite simple... my back seems to be in the best condition I can remember.

I'm not waking up in pain and exhaustion.

Having posted previously about being diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and this limiting what I could do, the reality is I didn't realise how compromising it has been.  I guess when you live with something for 20ish years you just get used to what seems normal for you.  But having just started treatment for it I feel better than I can ever remember - in fact, I woke up last week and couldn't work out why I felt weird, until I realised that it was because things didn't hurt.

Things will never be perfect, I have limited mobility in parts of my spine, and the ground can seem an awfully long way away at times when I need to pick things up.  But I can swim again without dealing with pain every time I turn my head to breath, I don't get sciatic pains all the time when running, and I definitely feel I have more energy and am sleeping better.  (Although my wife may not agree this is a good thing, as apparently I am snoring more than ever).

For anyone else there who has had a recent similar diagnosis, or maybe other injuries or illness, I'd just like to say that there may well be light at the end of the tunnel.  And when you get there you'll feel great!

So, what's next?  Well - I've entered a late season triathlon because I wanted to do something this year after May! And having been treated to a very push Club tri-suit I feel like it needs a proper airing!

I'll try and let you know how I get on (and will definitely post updates on my Instagram).  But if anyone has suggestions for things to do in the North West for the next 6 months, or especially epic targets I should consider for 2020 season I'd love to hear them.
